“Organizations and regions in development” is the overall theme of the research undertaken at BBS. Research is carried out not only in a number of research programmes but also as individual research projects in areas covering economics, tourism, business economics, political science and law. Ongoing research focuses on three profile areas: International business and
marketing with an emphasis on the Baltic Sea region, cultural economy, and health management

The research projects conducted in these profile areas areas have one thing in common, they all focus on the development of business, entrepreneurship, innovations, economic growth and the creation of clusters. Issues of importance to these areas of research are creation, creativity, transformation and learning processes

Research on topics related to International Business in the Baltic Sea region and other emerging markets in Eastern Europe and Asia is carried out at the Baltic Business Research Centre (BBRC) within five research programmes and several projects,
 

At the Centre for Cultural Economy (CCE) research is carried out within twelve projects in the subjects Business Administration, Cultural Geography, Tourism, Sociology and Ethnology. Cultural Economy provides a scientific/theoretical perspective for the research group's thinking. Tourism and experiences, cultural heritage, some / copyright industries and creative industries are the empirical fields which are studied as cultural-economic phenomena. 

 

Other research programmes at the BBS are Diversity in the Health Sector, Fair Management and Sustainable Economies, and Art and Leadership. A number of individual research projects in the fields of Organisation, Accounting and Marketing are also ongoing. Research projects in economics are carried out at the research centre Labour Economics and Social Cognition (LESC) and cover fields such as / immigrants in the labour market and international growth comparisons, as well as technological development and productivity.

 

Some of the research at the BBS is financed by / the University of Kalmar’s internal funds, but most of it is financed by the municipal authority in Kalmar, the Regional Council and Telia. Other sponsors are the County Administrative Board, SIDA/Sarec, FAS, SFR, FN, UNESCO and UNCTAD, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Swedish Research Council.
